General Guidelines for the Basic Science Requirement

The Basic Science requirement counts towards the awarding of the MMSc or DMSc degree in Oral Biology. Courses taken towards this requirement cannot be counted towards another requirement. For example, it cannot count towards your specialty requirements, even if the subject is appropriate.  Please review our webpage for cross-registration courses that have been approved for Basic Science credits.

Cross-registration courses counting towards Basic Science credits must be high level graduate courses in or about subjects related to oral biology and medicine (see examples below). All other courses can be taken for your own edification as long as they are of graduate level.

Examples of disciplines related to oral biology and medicine:

o    Anatomy
o    Biology (including Microbiology and
Molecular Biology)
o    Biotechnology & Tissue Engineering
o    Chemistry & Biochemistry
o    Genetics

o    Immunology
o    Neuroscience
o    Pathology
o    Pharmacology
o    Physiology

If you wish to receive Basic Science credits for a course that is not in the above disciplines, please submit your request by completing the survey form before you enroll into the class.
