Even More Reasons to Smile: GKAS Sees Record-Setting Participation

For many young children it can be intimidating to sit in a dental chair for the first time. Knowing this, Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) students created a fun and engaging atmosphere for children to learn about positive oral health habits during the annual Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) event held during Children’s Dental Health Month on Saturday, February 11. More than 60 young patients ages one to 17 received free dental care—a record-setting number.

When Sara Hahn, DMD11, first uploaded a video of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift’s teeth to the social media entertainment platform TikTok, she had no idea how far a reach it would have. Overnight the 1-minute video analyzing Swift’s dental work, including a set of veneers, received over 1.3 million views and 125,000 likes.

Celebrating the Perseverance and Determination of the Class of 2022

On the morning of Thursday, May 26 the pageantry and jubilance of Commencement returned to Harvard Yard for the first time since 2019, before the onset of the pandemic. Harvard School of Dental Medicine’s Class of 2022 graduates proudly marched into the Yard and took their places amongst graduates from across the University for Harvard’s 371st Commencement ceremony.
