Jillian Muhlbauer arrived at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) in August of 2015 with certain expectations of what dental school would be like. 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi: Caring for Patients with Intellectual Disabilities and Global Health

Abu Dhabi Trip

Over spring break, six HSDM students traveled to Abu Dhabi, which was the site of the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games and features a program called Special Smiles and provides dental screenings and care to athletes. HSDM students will share their experiences participating in the Special Smiles program and how inclusive programs like this are essential to providing positive dental experiences to all patients.

This round table event will follow the Stephen T. Sonis Lectureship in Oral Medicine held earlier that day at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

The purpose of the Stephen T. Sonis Lectureship in Oral Medicine is to highlight the importance of the oral cavity and its associated structures in disease and in health, and to promote collaboration between oral health care specialists and physicians. Building Community Through the Annual Give Kids a Smile Event

As the sun rose over a chilly Longwood Avenue, the Teaching Practices of the Harvard Dental Center was humming as dental students prepared to host Give Kids a Smile. Launched in 2003 by the American Dental Association, Give Kids a Smile is an event held annually that focuses on the oral health of children between the ages of one and 17. This year’s event was held on Saturday, February 9 and was well received by members of the surrounding communities.

Five-year-old Ayrum Harris grasped a smiling rubber ducky in one hand while holding onto the hand of a dental student.
