The HSDM Office for Faculty Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of a new faculty career development workshop series designed to meet the specific needs of HSDM full- and part-time faculty members.
These monthly, in-person workshop sessions will offer practical support and guidance for understanding the promotion process and how to plan for it.
Objectives
- Demonstrate strategic planning for short- and long-term career advancement at HSDM.
- Generate access to career-planning tools and resources for promotion.
- Improve transparency and clarity on HSDM faculty policies.
- Enable routine career strategy and development practices for HSDM departments and individual faculty members.

This workshop series reiterates important information and resources available through HMS Office for Faculty Affairs. Session topics include a general orientation to career advancement, the promotion process, promotion timeline guidance, faculty affairs resources, and career planning opportunities. Sessions will offer practical guidance for aligning faculty day-to-day activities with advancement goals and capturing them on the CV accordingly.
Sessions will review criteria for getting promoted to assistant and associate professor by area of excellence. The series also provides helpful steps for reviewing time commitments, aligning activities with career roles and goals, and planning for a productive annual career conference session.
This HSDM workshop series is in addition to Harvard Medical School Office for Faculty Affairs workshops. HSDM faculty are strongly encouraged to participate in HMS OFA workshops and review available resources. These include Promotion and CV Webinars, a corresponding Video Library, the Faculty of Medicine Handbook, and the Faculty of Medicine CV Guidelines.
