Judith Vance, director of Human Resources, has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Sharon P. Clayborne Staff Diversity Award which is presented annually to a Harvard Medical School (HMS) or Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) staff member.
The Sharon P. Clayborne Staff Diversity Award and the Harold Amos Faculty Diversity Award were established to recognize HMS/HSDM staff and faculty respectively, who have made significant achievements in moving HMS/HSDM toward being a diverse and inclusive community. The Diversity Award advisory committee reviewed and selected this year's recipients.
Vance’s nominators noted her dedication to advance diversity initiatives, including her most recent work developing a mentoring program in the Harvard Longwood community with the Black Staff Caucus. In the words of her colleagues, Judy is an “advocate” who “demonstrates and encourages equity” and someone who works with “grace and respect” with all who seek her advice.
“We are all grateful for Judy’s dedication to advancing diversity and inclusion at HSDM. Please join us in congratulating Judy on this well-deserved accolade,” said Dean William Giannoble.
It is an honor to be nominated for the Diversity Awards and other HSDM nominees included: Mary E. Anderson, HSDM associate director of Human Resources and Faculty Affairs who was also nominated for the Sharon P. Clayborne Staff Diversity Award, as well as Dr. Shibani Sahni, former HSDM lecturer in Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology, and Dr. Brian Swann, interim assistant dean for Diversity and assistant professor of Oral Health and Epidemiology, who were both nominated for the Harold Amos Faculty Diversity Award.
Vance will be recognized on Thursday, March 31 during a Zoom webinar awards ceremony.
