On Wednesday, September 21, HSDM alumni from all generations gathered to celebrate Dean William V. Giannobile for an evening of reconnection and appreciation at the HMS New Research Building in Boston. The event, hosted by the Harvard Dental Alumni Association, was one of the first opportunities for many alumni to meet Dean Giannobile in-person since he started his deanship in September 2020.

Peter Polverini, DMSc77, PD77, a distinguished alumnus of HSDM and a leader in the field of vascular and cancer biology, has been selected as this year’s Goldhaber Award recipient. Polverini currently serves as the Jonathan Taft Distinguished University Professor of Dentistry and dean emeritus of the University of Michigan Dental School and Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Alumni spanning generations and hailing from all over the world returned to Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) on Alumni Day for the first time since 2019, before the onset of the pandemic. HSDM alumni reunited during this year’s Reunion and Alumni Day through informal gatherings, virtual happy hours, and engaging online programs. While most activities were virtual this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, alumni found creative ways to channel their class spirit and relive fond memories of HSDM.
