Located within the Offices of Dental Education and Student Affairs, our programs are designed to guide students in exploring and pursuing the myriad opportunities in dentistry and beyond.

Our career resources are tailored to meet students at various stages of their dental education, ensuring readiness for the professional world.

Career Prep Series

Specifically designed for third-year dental students, this series equips participants with essential tools for entering the professional arena. Whether aiming for residency, private practice, research, or other careers post-graduation, these workshops cover:

  • Personal Statement Writing - Whether a student is in the early stages of writing their personal statement with an outline, or already has something in progress, all will leave with something of value after this session. Group work focuses on the introductory hook/paragraph with the opportunity for peer review.

  • CV/Resume Skills - This session aims to equip students with the skills needed to craft a professional resume that is aligned with their skills and relevant experience. Advice is given on best practices and includes feedback (small group and individual).

  • Interview Skills - Designed to prepares students for job/residency/graduate school interviews, the facilitator plays the role of interviewer, providing feedback on physical and vocal presentation of self.

Professional Development Series

Available to all students, this series enhances professional skills through sessions in:

  • eProfessionalism "Guidance and Discussion for Online Practice in a Developing Professional Landscape" - This session covers timeline of policies and key social media trends as well as professional considerations concerning Dental Academia statements, State/Federal Institutional, Social Media Guidelines, and Professional Associations Statements. Evidence based best practices by platforms are also presented with case examples of documented and undocumented violations. Students are also given time to ask questions and participate in discussion.
     
  • Leveraging Linkedin - This workshop outlines the features and professional importance of the LinkedIn platform. The facilitator defines the various components of a strong LinkedIn profile and guides students through the creation and development of their personal LinkedIn page. Students will learn how to leverage LinkedIn to expand their networks as well as share ideas about the use of this platform.

Enhance Your Professional Journey

  • ADA Success Seminars (coming soon). Engage in seminars offered by the American Dental Association (ADA) that focus on key aspects of dental practice and professionalism.
  • Dean’s Letter Questionnaire. Complete this essential step for your residency applications via the PCE site on Canvas.
  • INDBE Prep Materials. Student eligibility and application approval for Board exams are granted by the Office of Dental Education. Find resources and information to help prepare for the Integrated National Board Dental Examination as a step towards licensure to practice dentistry via the PCE site on Canvas.
