Senior Lecturer on Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology, Part-time
My career here at Harvard from 1980 to 2015 focused on Implant dentistry during which time I had the opportunity to institute several innovations. Significant among them were the establishment of the world’s first Department of Implant Dentistry and the introduction of the concept of immediate loading/function which changed the way implant dentistry is practiced today. Through this work I realized more than 1/2 of American adults are still suffering tooth loss. The challenge to change this has driven me to pivot toward the epidemiology of tooth loss to change the healthcare system so that all Americans will have the opportunity to live free from the burdens of tooth loss.
