Health services research conducted at HSDM focuses on creating national models for integrated, inter-professional care in clinical practice that incorporates oral health in overall health. 

Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine

The Harvard School of Dental Medicine Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine brings together academic experts and healthcare leaders to transform health education, care delivery and financing systems to create equitable and easily accessible dental care and improved oral - systemic health for all. The Initiative engages in inter-institutional collaborative research, demonstration projects and leadership convenings to advance the medical dental integration agenda.

Nurse Practitioner-Dentist (NPD) Model for Primary Care

The Nurse Practitioner-Dentist (NPD) Model for Primary Care Phase 2 is funded by the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health through June 30, 2024. Its focus is on integrating primary care services in an academic dental practice and testing the financial viability of the model. 

Center for Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health

The Center for Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health (CIPCOH) is a national resource for systems-level research. Its focus is on integrating oral health into primary care training, with a special emphasis on improving the training of primary care providers. The goal is to equip them to provide top-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care that supports oral health, tackles oral health disparities, and meets the distinct needs of all communities.

National Center for Equitable Care for Elders

The National Center for Equitable Care for Elders (NCECE) serves as a training and technical assistance center. It offers creative and culturally competent care models, inter-professional training, educational resources, and technical support to healthcare professionals who care for an increasingly vulnerable group, namely, older adults.
