Dr. Loreto Abusleme received a DDS degree (2009) and a Master’s in periodontology (2012) from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Chile. She then pursued a PhD in a combined program between the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research at the NIH (2013-2017), working at the laboratory of Dr. Niki Moutsopoulos (2013-2018). Abusleme went back to the University of Chile in 2019, where she is currently an associate professor and has established herself as an Independent Investigator, focusing on the interplay between the microbiome and the host immune responses in the oral cavity, particularly in the subgingival environment.
