Lunch and Learn Session Five: Gaining Perspective on the Deaf Population and Dentistry

Date:

Friday, March 10, 2023, 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Location:

REB Auditorium

Dr. Joseph Samona will close the week’s Lunch and Learn series with a presentation on the deaf population and dentistry. The HSDM Community looks forward to welcoming Dr. Samona to share personal experiences and perspectives that will guide an important discussion around ways in which we can develop cultural dexterity in the practice of caring for individuals who are deaf and/or hard-of-hearing.

Joseph Samona, DDS is a dentist in Bloomfield Hills MI. Born and raised in Metro Detroit, Dr. Joseph Samona always knew he wanted to serve the community he grew up in. After completion of his dental training at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (go Blue!), he chose to pursue an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at University of Texas Health Science Center. The program has given him the advanced training needed to give the best care, such as dental implants, periodontal therapy, IV sedation, cosmetic dentistry, root canal treatment, and management of medically compromised patients. Dr. Samona is committed to keeping up-to-date with the latest technology and attends many hours of continuing education so he can provide high quality comprehensive care to his patients. When not in the office, Dr. Samona enjoys traveling, spending time with family, working out, playing sports and hiking. He has always been involved with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community and, with his dental background, is passionate about promoting oral health education in American Sign Language.
