Diversity Week Opening Reception

Diversity Week will provide a series of forums aimed at developing community relationships and fostering safe environments for continuous learning. Guest speakers and Lunch-and-Learn sessions will function to encourage discussions around diversity and inclusion in oral health, practice of dentistry, and academia. These sessions will discuss topics pertaining to race/culture, religion, dis/ability, mental health, and LGBTQIA+. The goal of these sessions is to celebrate the diversity that exists in the HSDM community and foster safe learning environments for continued education and cultural humility. The opening reception will feature cultural dance performances, a keynote by Dr. Rueben Warren, and food!

Keynote

Rueben C. Warren, D.D.S., M.P.H., Dr. P. H., M. Div., is professor and director of the Tuskegee National Center for Bioethics. Adjunct appointments: professor of public health, medicine and ethics, Interdenominational Theological Center; clinical professor, Department of Community Health/Preventive Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine; professor, Department of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education, Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health; and professor, Schools of Dentistry and Graduate Studies, Meharry Medical College. Dr. Warren was associate director for Minority Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He directed Infrastructure Development, National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, NIH. Formerly, he was dean of the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.
