Diversity Week Lunch and Learn: Men of Color in Health Care and Research

According to the 2022 US Dentist Demographic Dashboard, only 3.8% of US dentists are Black and the American Dental Education Association reported a 16% decrease in the dental school application pool in 2020.  Dr. Todd Ester, the Director of DEI at the University of Michigan, will lead a discussion on men of color in health care and research. Join us as a community to learn and engage in a thoughtful conversation about these trends in the academic and professional field of oral health.

The Presenter

Dr. EsterDr. Todd V. Ester earned his Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) from Morehouse College and both his DDS and Endodontics certificate from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Ester completed his residency at Harlem Hospital Center where he specialized in endodontics.

He served at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry as Director of Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Clinical Professor and was responsible for planning and delivering programs and services related to diversity issues for students and staff at the school.

Ester has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Delta Dental Fund Student Leadership Award, the Albert Schon Award at Harlem Hospital Center for Excellence in Endodontics, and the University of Michigan’s John Corcoron Graduate Endodontics Award.
