Abstract: This lecture will discuss Computed Tomography foundations. Cone beam computed tomography has revolutionized the field of dentistry. It has provided us three dimensional visualization of the teeth and maxillofacial region. This course is meant for dentists who are considering integrating advanced imaging for patient management and for those who already use 3D imaging, and would like improve their foundations.
We will discuss the basics of this technology, the clinical indications, advantages, limitations and guidelines on incorporating CBCT in your practice.
The final section will include ethical and medico-legal considerations while using CBCT.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will have learned about:
- Describe basic principles of CT imaging
- Identify the indications and limitations of CBCT
- Discuss potential risks associated with radiation exposure related to CBCT scans
- Discuss the ethical and legal considerations of CBCT interpretation
