The School celebrated its 150th Anniversary throughout 2017 with exhibits, symposia and events. Here are a few highlights:

Sesquicentennial Gala

Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) celebrated its 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Gala held on Thursday, May 4, 2017. The event brought together nearly 150 HSDM alumni, faculty, students, and friends for a festive evening at the Harvard Art Museums. Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust kicked off the Gala with congratulatory remarks and a champagne toast. View a photo gallery from the Gala.

Sesquicentennial Educational Summit

The Sesquicentennial Educational Summit was held at HSDM on Friday, May 5. The morning’s program began with a keynote by Paul Farmer, MD, PhD, Kolokotrones University Professor and Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and co-founder of the international non-profit Partners In Health. The keynote was followed by concurrent educational sessions focused on many aspects of dentistry including the historical foundations of dentistry; women innovators in the profession; the future of dental education and patient care; the integration of oral health and primary care, and more. Founding Day Celebration and Community Open House


On Monday, July 17 the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) community, City of Boston officials, Harvard representatives, and Longwood neighbors gathered to celebrate the School’s founding 150 years ago on July 17, 1867.
