Aisha Ba
Fourth-Year DMD

 

Aisha is a third-year dental student from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before moving to Boston, she studied pharmacology, toxicology and wildfire ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her favorite things to do in Boston include walking along the Charles River to enjoying incredible concerts at the Berklee School of Music! Outside of school you can find her cooking with friends, making quilts, and weight training.

Ziwei Chen is a member of the DMD Class of 2023. Born and raised in rural China, Ziwei immigrated to the US and studied Molecular & Cellular Biology and Studio Visual Art at Johns Hopkins University. Outside of school, Ziwei enjoys oil painting, cooking, baking, and learning new languages. As a first-generation college graduate and first-generation graduate student, Ziwei hopes to strengthen the supportive environment at HSDM through mentoring, programming, and advocacy.

Stacy Cho

Y. W. Stacy Cho is a member of the HSDM Class of 2022. She is originally from South Korea and grew up in British Columbia, Canada. While completing her BS in Biology in California, she learned about and adopted the concept of “Third Culture Kids” into her identity. At Harvard, Stacy has been active in bringing the pan-Asian community together both on campus and beyond. She is also involved in Student Health & Wellness Committee, The Research Society, and HSDM ASDA Pre-Dental Committee. Outside of school, she loves to travel, attend concerts, volunteer at animal shelters, and listen to audiobooks.

Michelle ChungMichelle Chung

Michelle (Hye Soo) Chung was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Shanghai, China during elementary school. Michelle graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in Biology and minor in Psychology. In her free time, she likes to walk around and explore the city, find cute brunch restaurants or cafes, binge watch Netflix shows in bed, and work out with friends. She has been a part of ODI working towards creating a community that cherishes everyone’s differences. Michelle says, “Being an ODI fellow has been one of my favorite experiences at HSDM!”

Paul Chung

Although Paul Chung was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, he has lived in eight different states, spanning both coasts, and the Southwest. Paul is an NHSC scholar, and he hopes to pursue a career focused on native health. Outside of school, Paul is a painter and also enjoys sewing, knitting, and embroidery.

  Laura S. Pesquera Colom was born and raised in Puerto Rico where socioeconomic turmoil has uncovered severe health disparities. Urged by the need to help her own community and others in similar situations, she decided to pursue a career in dentistry, where disparities in care are particularly evident. In 2019, Laura obtained her BS in Biology with a minor in Spanish from Iowa State University. While at HSDM, she has been involved with Diversity and Inclusion efforts through the Latino Medical Student Association, Mission Crimson, and the HSDM Office of Admissions. Laura is passionate about increasing representation of URMs in dentistry and increasing cultural humility within health providers.

Quang Do is a third year dental student at HSDM. He and his family moved to the U.S. from Vietnam and settled in Kent, Washington (near Seattle) when he was nine years old. Quang majored in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry and minored in Bioethics at the University of Virginia. Beside the Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship, he is also a pre-dental committee member for the Harvard ASDA chapter and coordinator for the ACTION pediatric dental clinic. In his free time, he likes to go the gym, cook, and watch Netflix shows.

Jacqueline Harris is a third year DMD student from Snellville, Georgia. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama. Roll Tide! While in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jacqueline found her passion for dentistry through a volunteering opportunity at a local Good Samaritan Clinic. Outside of school, Jacqueline spends most of her free time playing volleyball and traveling.

Reinaldo Hernandez is a member of the HSDM Class of 2022. He completed his undergraduate studies in biological engineering at Cornell University. During his time at HSDM, he has volunteered in community service initiatives, such as ACTION, Give Kids a Smile, and the AAE Worth Saving Day event. He serves as treasurer for the Endodontics Study Club and enjoys conducting clinical research in the field of Endodontics. He is passionate about mentoring pre-dental students and hopes to expand the mentorship program at HSDM. In his free time, he likes to travel, try out new cuisines, and spend time with family and friends.

Jeremiah Kim is the proud recipient of three middle school diplomas—as a result of his formative years split between southern California and South Korea. Both during and after graduating from Williams College, he spent some time in the architecture industry to better engage the issues of dentistry through the lens of architectural design, the process of implementing numerous variables into practical and aesthetic solutions. He looks forward to seeking such solutions to low Medicaid involvement and improving URM recruitment through his work with the ODI community.

Ryan Lisann is a 2020 graduate of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He is currently pursuing a masters degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education through the Zuckerman Fellowship, an interdisciplinary graduate program for individuals committed to the public good. After his masters, he plans to pursue a pediatric dental residency. Ryan is driven by the potential of preventative dentistry through early childhood education and policy reform to support communities who often experience adverse oral health outcomes. Outside of dentistry, Ryan loves hiking, biking, camping, and all things outdoors.

Jordan Middleton is a member of the HSDM Class of 2023. He was born in Auburn, New York and went to Canisius College in Buffalo, New York for undergrad where he majored in biology. In his free time, Jordan loves to watch and play basketball, binge-watch Netflix, and visit the beach. He has a passion for working with children and hopes to incorporate that into his time as an ODI fellow.

Ashwini Parchure is a third-year DMD student from South Brunswick, New Jersey. She graduated from Lehigh University in 2017 with a degree in Biology and a minor in Health, Medicine, and Society. At HSDM, she also serves as an ASDA pre-dental committee chair and Endodontics study club president. In her free time, Ashwini enjoys dancing, Yelping, and exploring the Boston food scene. She has a huge sweet tooth and is ready to walk across the city just to get her hands on some dessert!

Shaida Parsaei is a rising second year DMD student in HSDM Class of 2023. She was born and raised in Tehran, Iran and moved to the US when she was fourteen. She attended the University of Texas at Dallas, majoring in Biology. While attending the university, she found a passion to advocate for diversity and cultural humility as well as mentoring in freshman seminar courses and leading Supplemental Instruction sessions. One of the highlights of Shaida’s undergraduate education was investigating dental biomaterials at the Biomaterial for Osseointegration and Novel Engineering lab, mainly focusing on investigating the interaction of dental cements with oral bacteria, bone and tissue forming cells as well as immune cells. At HSDM, Shaida is also a coordinator for ACTION pediatric dental clinic and enjoys giving back to the community and working with kids. In her spare time, Shaida likes swimming and playing the piano. She is always up for traveling with family and friends.

Aida Shadrav is a member of HSDM Class of 2021. She attended Hamilton College where she studied chemistry and Hispanic Studies. Aida loves to travel and she recently travelled to Valencia, Spain to conduct research in dental recall systems and preventative care. She has also been to Nicaragua to work at a small elementary school and bring awareness about oral health education. She is currently involved with ADEA as the chapter president and HSDM representative in District 1, student tutoring, and research. Aida is also passionate about preventative care and oral health literacy. In her free time, she enjoys long bike rides, reading, and spending time with her family.

Daniel Shen

Daniel Shen

Daniel Shen is from Irvine, California and grew up in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He went to UCLA for his undergraduate and majored in Microbiology. Currently a third year at HSDM and having been a fellow for the past two years, he has seen the positive impact our group has made to not only the HSDM community, but also the Boston community in general. Daniel can't wait to see what's in store in the future. During his spare time, he loves gardening, admiring fluffy dogs (that's his dog Buddy in the photo), and hanging out with his friends.

Carlos Thomas, originally from Valencia, Venezuela, grew up in sunny South Florida. Before attending HSDM, he studied chemistry and economics at the University of Florida. At HSDM, he also serves on the board of the school’s Hispanic Student Dental Association. Outside of school, Carlos is an enthusiastic learner of Portuguese, enjoys reading about history, drinking coffee, and watching movies.

Olivia Watrous is a second-year DMD student from Guilford, Connecticut. She graduated from Northeastern University with a major in Health Science and a minor in Spanish. In her first year at HSDM, Olivia enjoyed volunteering at the ACTION pediatric dental clinic as well as during the annual Give Kids a Smile day, and she hopes to pursue a career focused on preventative care and public health. In her free time, Olivia enjoys trying new workout classes, traveling, and spending time with her friends.

Natalie Wen is a third-year dental student from Hartland, Wisconsin. She obtained her BA in Spanish with minors in Biology and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis. At HSDM, she enjoys research and working with the Wampanoag Native American tribe on setting up a portable clinic. In her free time, she spends most of her time boxing, cooking, riding the M2, and visiting the ducklings in Boston Public Garden. You may or may not remember her running around in a lion costume during Diversity & Inclusion Week last year. Natalie is looking forward to joining the fellowship team.

Ariana Zahedi is a member of HSDM’s Class of 2022. Before dental school, she studied biology and Francophone studies at Carnegie Mellon University. As a native of Boston, she hopes to be part of HSDM’s efforts to engage with younger generation students from local communities through education and mentorship. Ariana’s love for languages inspire her to build bridges with populations that are linguistically heterogeneous. In her free time, she enjoys playing backgammon, photography, and watching travel documentaries.

Franklin Zhang is a first year student at HSDM from Plano, Texas. He also calls San Jose, California home as his family moved there right before college. He graduated from Rice University with a BA in Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences with a Certificate in Spanish. During his college years, he studied abroad in both Spain and Argentina. In Argentina, he learned about public health policy and epidemiology and conducted a project regarding oral self-care habits in primary schools in the neighborhood of Caballito in Buenos Aires. At HSDM, he is active in ASDA and will serve as VP for the 2020-2021 academic year. As an ODI Fellow, he is excited to open conversations that welcome people's differences yet help in reflecting on their experiences. He hopes to channel his experiences to better understand cultural gaps in healthcare and serve the communities around him and abroad. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, running, knitting, making and drinking coffee, and exploring.
