Laura Pesquera Colom
Third-Year DMD

Laura S. Pesquera Colom was born and raised in Puerto Rico where socioeconomic turmoil has uncovered severe health disparities. Urged by the need to help her own community and others in similar situations, she decided to pursue a career in dentistry, where disparities in care are particularly evident. In 2019, Laura obtained her BS in Biology with a minor in Spanish from Iowa State University. While at HSDM, she has been involved with Diversity and Inclusion efforts through the Latino Medical Student Association, Mission Crimson, and the HSDM Office of Admissions. Laura is passionate about increasing representation of URMs in dentistry and increasing cultural humility within health providers.
