DESCRIPTION
Over the past few years Rwanda has made great strides in improving its health system, in clinical training, teaching and in research. This accentuated the need for enhancing capacity in research ethics oversight. With the aid of a Fogarty grant, Dr. Bernard Friedland from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Drs. Nir Eyal and Dan Wikler from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health are training a cohort of Rwandan fellows from a variety of healthcare backgrounds in research ethics. They will present this effort, featuring the Fellows—who happen to be at Harvard during Worldwide Week. Dr. Donna Hackley from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine has been assisting in the establishment of Rwanda’s first dental school. She will kick off the discussion by sharing some of the challenges in starting a dental school in a developing country, as well as the satisfaction of doing so.
