The Women in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Symposium is a 2-day professional conference in Boston, Massachusetts, sponsored by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). This conference was developed to bring together female oral and maxillofacial surgeons from across the country to discuss career development and personal success in our evolving, but still male-dominated profession. The aim of this conference is to provide a platform to discuss the unique opportunities and challenges faced by female surgeons throughout their career. The conference will be focused on skill building in leadership, conflict management, and career development. We have built in time for panel Q&As as well as a networking reception to provide the space for practitioners, trainees, and staff to establish lifelong friendships and mentorships.
We invite all interested dental and medical students, surgical residents, staff, oral surgery faculty and private practitioners, men and women, to participate in this conference.
Objectives of this event include:
- Developing a network of female surgeons and trainees for mentorship and sponsorship
- Developing strategies for personal and professional success in OMFS
- Identifying barriers to the advancement of women in OMFS and develop strategies to meet these challenges
Topics that will be discussed:
- Gender Bias
- MeToo Movement for Surgeons
- Pay Equity
- Women in Surgery
- Contract Negotiations
- Young Leadership

- And so much more!
