Abstract: Dental implants are reliable and predictable options for replacing missing or injured teeth. However, implant-related complications can occur. Esthetic complications of implant therapy can have a major impact on patients’ quality of life, including anxiety about esthetics, socializing and speaking in public. This lecture will review the predisposing and precipitating factors related to these conditions. The recent classification of peri- implant soft tissue dehiscences will be discussed, together with the recommended treatment options for each clinical scenario. Scientific evidence supporting the benefit of treating these conditions and the long-term stability of the achieved outcomes over time will be provided.
1. Identify risk indicators of peri-implant soft tissue dehiscences prior to implant placement or loading
2. Understand the recent classification of peri-implant soft tissue dehiscences
3. Understand the rationale of using different approaches based on the type of peri-implant soft tissue dehiscence
