New Perspectives in Crestal Sinus Augmentation

Abstract: Sinus elevation procedure has been a treatment solution for the sinus proximity issues upon implant placement. Crestal sinus elevation has especially become increasingly popular, along with a variety of techniques, devices and instruments since it has been introduced. This lecture will first review the crestal sinus elevation techniques and devices, further propose some modified and new protocols and review clinical approaches based on an ex vivo animal study comparing two different surgical techniques. The technique to repair Schneiderian membrane perforation upon crestal approach will be discussed as well.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand both indications and contraindication for sinus elevation using several different approaches. To learn different techniques for crestal sinus elevation.
  • To understand how to make clinical decisions for adopting and choosing suitable techniques.
  • To be familiar with the membrane repairing technique.
