Case Studies in Orofacial Pain and Headache Series: Headaches and Orofacial Pain Resembling Primary Headache Disorders

"Case Studies in Orofacial Pain and Headache" will be an ongoing series of continuing education (CE) on orofacial pain, headache, and related pain topics focusing on case studies. It will consist of a half-day program (4 hours), six times a year (every 2 months) with 9 orofacial pain program collaborators. The CE series is co-sponsored by Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine's The Craniofacial Pain Center and Office of Continuing Education. Each case presentation will be presented by a Post-Graduate Resident and overseen by a faculty member from the respective training programs. An “expert” guest speaker and discussant will be invited to participate based on the topics of the presentations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the classification of primary headache disorders
  • Describe the subclassification of orofacial pain conditions resembling primary headache disorders in the International Classification of Orofacial Pain
  • Review the evaluation and diagnosis of various types of headaches and orofacial pain disorders
  • Discuss the evidence-based treatments for trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia
  • Understand the complex nature of secondary headache disorders and the association to orofacial pain
  • Review the presentation, assessment, and treatment for neurovascular orofacial pain
  • Review and update migraine diagnosis and pathophysiology
