Office of Diversity Inclusion

The Office of Diversity Inclusion promotes increased recruitment, retention, and advancement of underrepresented minority students and faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The Office, led by Peggy Timothé, DDS, MPH, seeks to emulate the Harvard tradition of excellence in education, science, and public health by supporting a well-trained faculty, while creating oral health leaders reflecting the larger community that we serve.

Goals of the Office of Diversity Inclusion

  • Foster an environment that is comfortable and welcoming to all members of the community
  • Provide support for a diverse population
  • Develop a recruitment strategy to increase enrollment of students from underrepresented minorities
  • Develop and implement a plan to recruit faculty from underrepresented minorities
  • Enhance and develop curricula that address issues of diversity, cross-cultural care, and sensitivity

Office of Global and Community Health

The Office of Global and Community Health is responsible for developing, promoting, and sustaining initiatives in oral public health domestically and around the globe. As the home of the HSDM Global Oral Health Initiative, the Office is working with HSDM faculty and students to refine the School’s vision for global health and to coordinate its many outreach programs and curricular offerings. Such efforts include working with faculty to incorporate global health into the curriculum at the pre- and postdoctoral levels, to increase externship and research opportunities, and to integrate oral health into the Harvard University Initiative on Global Health. The Office also liaises with other schools at Harvard, health care providers, charitable organizations, and government agencies to raise awareness of oral health issues and to establish collaborative partnerships.

Office of Admissions and Student Affairs

Located within the Office of Dental Education, the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs serves as the point of contact for all activities related to acceptance and enrollment in HSDM’s DMD and Advanced Graduate Education programs. The office coordinates orientation and commencement for these programs and provides guidance for student organizations. With the other components of the Office of Dental Education, Admissions and Student Affairs supports students in their academic and professional development.

Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar serves as custodian for the official academic records of all students, from matriculation through degree conferral. The office maintains the HSDM academic calendar, provides information about courses, registers students for classes, and administers the academic policies of the School.

Located within the Office of Dental Education, the Office of the Registrar also maintains contact information for students, provides academic transcripts, verifies enrollment status and degree conferral, and processes requests for educational loan deferments. In addition, the office provides appropriate data to facilitate the educational programs of the School and the reporting requirements of both the School and the University.

Office of Financial Aid

The Harvard School of Dental Medicine is committed to helping students identify the resources they need to obtain a Harvard Dental education. The Office of Financial Aid, located in the Office of Dental Education, is available to assist you and your family as you proceed through the admissions process and continuing through your graduation. Office of Clinical Affairs

The Harvard School of Dental Medicine has a large and active Faculty Group Practice, which, together with its Teaching Practice, does business as the Harvard Dental Center. The Office of Clinical Affairs, under the leadership of Assistant Dean of Clinical Operations Catherine Lane, is responsible for the oversight and management of all clinical practices in the Harvard Dental Center, including quality improvement, credentialing, infection control, OSHA and HIPAA regulatory compliance, patient satisfaction, financial and operational management, and formulary and materials management.

Office of Research

The Office of Research is responsible for oversight of all research activities at HSDM, under the direction of Dean for Research Bjorn R. Olsen, MD, PhD. The Office of Research produces a regular Research Bulletin, which contains information about HSDM faculty research and publications, as well as awards and honors for faculty and students.

Office of Human Resources

The Office of Human Resources resides within the Office of Administration and Finance. This office directs the administration of all University human resources policies and practices for the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

We are dedicated to HSDM employees and seek to provide an environment that recognizes and supports our talented faculty and staff in their efforts to administer, educate, provide dental care to patients, and conduct research work in the field of dental medicine. Office of Dental Education

The Office of Dental Education (ODE) oversees all educational programs within the School, including predoctoral education, advanced graduate education, and continuing education. ODE faculty and staff are committed to assisting students as they progress through their educational programs. The offices of Admissions and Student Affairs, Financial Aid, and Registrar, as well as the senior tutors, are located within the Office of Dental Education. The office also coordinates orientation, commencement, and a wide range of activities related to student life.

The Office of the Dean, led by R. Bruce Donoff, DMD, MD, provides the leadership for the School’s mission and strategic plan.
