Giving to HSDM
Donors at the 1867 Society annual giving level and above receive an invitation to the School’s Appreciation Dinner, held each year on the fourth Thursday in April.
The continuity of philanthropic support for HSDM maintains its stature as one of the world’s preeminent schools of dental medicine. Endowed gifts from the past—beginning as early as 1899—and current outright gifts to the School combine to ensure its academic success and continued scholarly rigor.
Whether you invest in the School through the annual fund, an endowed fund to perpetuate the name of a loved one, a life income, or your estate plans, your participation enhances the School’s stature in the world and we thank you.
With your annual gift of $1,867 or more to the HSDM annual fund, you become a member of the Nathan Cooley Keep Society. Donors at this level and above receive an invitation to the School’s Appreciation Dinner each April and recognition in the Harvard Dental Bulletin and the HSDM annual report. Other annual giving societies, which feature these and additional benefits, include the 188 Longwood Society, the Robert T. Freeman Society, the Carlotta A. Hawley Society, and the Dean’s Society. In addition, gifts of life insurance, art, collections, copyrights, royalties, patents, real estate, and other income rights and/or assets can be an effective way to provide meaningful support to HSDM. Depending on the asset given, the structure of your gift, and the purpose of your gift, you will be able to take advantage of various tax and financial benefits.
Your gift to the annual fund provides a valuable source of funds that has an impact on every aspect of the School’s mission. These gifts enable a rapid response to the School’s greatest needs, such as the renovation of the Maloney Lab.
Named, Endowed Gifts
Your gift to establish a named endowment fund provides vital permanent legacies for the School and its programs. Endowed funds support scholarships, research, and academic departments in perpetuity. One example of this type of fund is the Paul Goldhaber Dean’s Chair.
With a planned gift to HSDM, you become a member of the Henry C. Warren Society. Planned gifts may provide a larger legacy than a cash gift made during your lifetime. A planned gift in the form of life insurance, real estate, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and bequests may provide you with lifetime benefits, while providing for the School of Dental Medicine into the future.
