Oluwabunmi Tokede, BDS, MPH

Dr. Bunmi Tokede was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained his dental degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2006, completed an internship in general dentistry at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and was subsequently selected for a Fellowship at the WHO Regional Center for Oral Health Research for Africa.

Dr. Tokede received his Master in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2010. Since then he has completed a research internship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a postdoctoral fellowship in oral health policy and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He was appointed as an Instructor at the department in January 2014.

As policy and practice decisions in healthcare are increasingly being based on conclusions drawn from clinical data, Dr. Tokede’s work at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine has mostly focused on strengthening the existing structures of clinical information ascertainment, caching, and retrieval within the electronic health record. He recently received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project that ultimately seeks to replicate the “Surgical Safety Checklist” work done by Dr. Gawande and colleagues in the dental world.
