Dr. Donald B. Giddon

Professor of Developmental Biology, Emeritus

Dr. Donald B. Giddon, professor emeritus at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), has a distinguished career spanning academia and clinical practice. Additionally, he holds the title of Clinical Professor Emeritus of Community Health at Brown University School of Medicine and serves as an attending physician at New York University Hospital. From 1975 to 1980, Dr. Giddon was the Dean of the New York University College of Dentistry and held professorships in anesthesiology at the NYU School of Medicine and in psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

A 1959 DMD graduate of HSDM, Dr. Giddon furthered his education with postdoctoral training in periodontology and oral medicine (PD’62). He also holds a PhD in psychology from Brandeis University, an AB from Brown University, and an MA in psychology from Boston University. He has authored over 150 published articles, abstracts, reviews, and books on topics such as the psychophysiology of stress and disease, pain, facial deformity, and the perception of facial and body appearance.

Dr. Giddon's affiliations include fellowships with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Public Health Association, the American Psychological Association, the International College of Psychosomatic Medicine, and the Royal Society of Medicine. He is also a charter member of the American Pain Society.

The Professor Donald B. Giddon Conference Room at HSDM houses a dedicated collection of Dr. Giddon's publications on behavioral sciences and healthcare, supporting research, training, and practice in dental medicine.
