Application Process

Candidates for the Advanced Graduate Education (AGE) Program in Dental Public Health apply for either the Master of Medical Sciences (MMSc), or the Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) degree, in conjunction with the Dental Public Health certificate.  Applicants with a Masters in Public Health may apply for the two-year Certificate program.  Joint application to HSDM and Harvard School of Public Health is required for the MPH plus Certificate in DPH option.

Application to the Dental Public Health program is a two-step process.

Step 1 - Submit to ADEA PASS

ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) application, including:

  • Personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
    -Dean’s (letter) evaluation
    -Faculty letters of evaluation (3)
  • Official transcripts from dental school and other advanced education programs. International applicants who attended dental colleges outside the United States or Canada must submit a translation certified by a licensed credentialing service.

Step 2 - Submit to HSDM

HSDM Advanced Graduate Education (AGE) Supplemental Application, including:

  • Program selection. Indicate the degree or program to which you are applying in Dental Public Health.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official test scores:

–Dental Admissions Test (if taken)

–Part I, National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) (if taken)

–Part II, National Board Dental Examination (if taken)

–Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) (if taken)

–Test of English as A Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Applicants whose native language is other than English are required to submit a recent TOEFL score. This applies to applicants who attended English speaking dental schools in non-English speaking countries.  Proficiency in English is required for admission. The minimum TOEFL score for admission is 95 on the Internet-based test.   The required subcategory minimums are:  25 Written; 24 Spoken; 21 Reading; 17 Listening.

NBDE Part 1 is not required for the DPH programs.  However it is highly recommended that the applicant take either NBDE Part 1 or the GRE, if possible.

  • Application fee. Submit a nonrefundable check or money order in the amount of USD $75 payable to Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Checks must be in US Funds. Applicant’s name, program (Dental Public Health) and Dentpin should be clearly marked on the check or money order. Cash or credit cards are not accepted. Mail application fee to

Additional Curricular Options

Applicants may combine their certificate with options available at other divisions of Harvard University. A separate application and acceptance from the other schools are required for these combined options.
